Christian As Christians, we often underestimate the immense power of joy. Maybe consider it unnecessary or frivolous for serious followers of Jesus. But the Bible tells us otherwise.
King David knew the joy of the Lord, and described it this way as he addresses God in Psalm 4, “The intense pleasure You give me surpasses the gladness of harvest time even more than when the harvesters gaze upon their ripened grain, and when the new wine overflows!1”
In John 15, Jesus explains to His disciples how obeying Him and loving others is inseparably connected to joy. He said, “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.2”
And anticipating the cross, Jesus Himself was strengthened, as he looked beyond it to the joy that was waiting for Him3.
God wants us to experience this same empowering joy. And authentic joy comes only through our friendship with the Lord Jesus. He longs for that closeness with you.
Don’t undervalue the power of joy!
